What are you grateful for this year?

Gratitude is so important in everyday life—it has the power to improve your mood and more—so I try to practice it on the regular. But of course we pay special attention to it this time of year, so why not let’s all share (and let me know what you’re doing for the holiday—I’m curious). This year I’m very grateful I took up yoga and stuck with it, because it has definitely changed my life for the better. I’m also grateful to the usual suspects: my family for being there for me always, and for my friends for the same. I’m grateful I’m making tracks on my book. And I’m desperately grateful to Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey, who broke the Harvey Weinstein story at the Times, and opened the floodgates. And also—as I am every year—I’m tremendously grateful to all GOACA readers who check in on the regular and make the comments such a pleasure to read every day.

40% off some pretty great jewelry, exclusively for GOACA

The fine people over at Iconery are offering GOACA readers a big discount on some of their most covetable pieces, and I, for one, am pretty excited. Just type in GIRLS40 at checkout, and choose from the excellent items here. This necklace, which is from the line I designed for them, is inspired by one of my tattoos.

This sapphire-and-diamond ring couldn’t be a lot more elegant.

And you know how much I like a good snake necklace.

I have wanted this horseshoe bracelet forever; this might be the time to pull the trigger.

This necklace is meant to hang charms from, but I like it on its own, too.

It’ll be foul weather boot season before we know it

Seriously, do not delay in making a purchase if you’re in the market for this item, because if you wait until the first snowstorm, all the good ones will be sold out in your size. This, I have learned the hard way. Foul weather boots are one of the unsexiest necessities in existence, but they are crucial for getting through winter in many parts of this country. And they don’t have to be straight-up ugly: I think that this one is almost chic.

These are from Birkenstock, and I love how fluffy they are.

There are a lot of hiking boot-style options to choose from lately, and I like these because of the shearling and the cute laces. (Here’s a similar cheaper pair from J. Crew).

A lightweight sneaker-style boot that’d be perfect for those days when there’s a little snow on the ground but not too much.

A classic, heavy-duty Sorel boot can’t be beat.

This is just the cutest, and I want.

Moon Boots are rather ridiculous-looking, but something about them has always intrigued me—they do look an awful lot like something one would wear on interplanetary travels. (Here is a pair where the logo is less visible and without fur.)

A shearling-lined Chelsea boot: so adorable.

I rarely show any fur that isn’t faux, but I had to include a pair of Mukluks because I know how much some of you love  them.

My uniform at the moment

Really, this is a post on layering, because I’ve had a few requests for that, and I figured that the easiest way to show you how to do it is to show you how I do it. I’m still wearing a lot of button-down shirts these days, so I’ll start with one from  Xirena cause they’re nice and thin, which is essential when you’re layering under a sweater. This one has a cute red and blue stripe pattern, and it’s on sale too.

I am big into V-neck sweaters these days, and very much want this one from Vince.

I have been searching for a thin hoodie for a while now because I like wearing them under coats. After an exhaustive search, I found the ideal one: it’s from ATM and I especially like the shirttail hem. I sized up so it can fit over even bulky sweaters.

I have been wearing these pants nonstop: they are so comfortable and flattering.

Typically I wear a black Chan Luu scarf, but I just ordered this one and am excited for the little color injection it’s going to provide on days that I can’t be bothered.

I bought the cutest, cheapest shaggy faux fur cropped jacket a month or two ago at a boutique in the West Village and it’s sold out or I’d link to it, because it’s so good (check it out here) but this one is pretty good too.

My Officine Creative boots have become one of my smartest investments in some time—they’re tall enough to give you a little height, but at the same time quite walkable.

It’s the Net a Porter sale, everyone

So hop to it, because the popular sizes always go fast. This Isabel Marant jacket is a pretty good place to start.
