Taking requests: Not-unattractive items for the kitchen

This challenge comes from my sister-in-law Shirim, who is redoing her kitchen and wonders why most standard items for that room are so ugly. She is not wrong; this was a challenging post to put together. But because I love Shirim, I forged ahead, and bring you, for starters, this very chic bread bin.

I like this utensil holder so much I might have to order it.

Nothing like a classic Wesco trash can.

Shirim specifically asked for me to find a good-looking toaster oven, but I am not convinced such a thing exists. Also, toaster ovens never toast to my satisfaction, so I’m going old school on this one.

I mostly like this paper towel holder because it pretty much disappears.

Shirim is having a vexing time finding a dish rack that isn’t too awful to look at, and I have to say, this was the single toughest item to find. This one from Williams-Sonoma wins, mostly because it is less ugly than most, and is compact, which is good for your average New York apartment.

It wasn’t that easy to find a good-looking coffee maker either, but I did like the look of this one.

Shirim wanted an automatic coffee maker, but my choice for most stylish coffee maker of all time is this timeless drip version from Chemex.

It’s the big Shopbop fall sale, everyone

I love when Shopbop has these sales, because you get a nice markdown on items that otherwise might not ever get discounted. The deal is this: you get 20% off all orders under $200 and 25% off all orders over $500. I’m considering going for this jacket, which has such a good shape and a most excellent leopard print.

I love a grey suede boot, and this one has such a good semi-pointy toe.

R13 jeans are my jam, but I always wait for these sales to buy them cause they’re pricey. I own this pair and wear it endlessly.

If you’re at all interested in buying a pair of leather jeans, this sale is definitely something to take advantage of. I swear by my Frames.

Top 5 of the week: What’s new at Madewell

This faux fur muffler is just the adorableness.

A good solid coat with nice, simple lines.

A striped shirt I am very tempted to add to my menagerie of striped shirts.

This denim chore jacket is perfect for kicking around on weekends.

And I’d wear this velvet cami under a blazer on a date.

Why not make your next handbag red?

Red handbags are such an easy way to add a little color to whatever you’re wearing, and I especially like them this time of year, when our impulse is to retreat into darks. I have shown you this backpack from Kara before, I’m pretty sure (in black), but they get the red so right here that I had to give it another go-around.

Just a classic, classic duffel shape.

Madewell’s Transport tote in red gets really cool-looking.

I just adore this: so rich and sophisticated-looking.

A bit of a bucket shape, with two handy straps for versatility.

This reminds me a bit of a saddlebag, but the shape is more interesting.

A nifty work-to-evening option.

I could carry this day in and day out—it’s small, but big enough for the essentials, and so cute.

And we’ll end things where we started them, with a backpack: this one from Mansur Gavriel.
