10 highly wearable shirtdresses

Shirtdresses can be hard. Too many of them are narrow, and tough on those with a tummy, hips, or a backside of substance. But good ones are worth seeking out, because they look so crisp on scorching days. I like when they’re a touch flowy, or at least flowier on the lower half. They’re more feminine that way too. Here is a classic example of an old-style shirtwaist dress, only loosened up a bit for comfort.

There is a very subtle striping on this one that I’m crazy for.

You would never know this is a plus option based on what the model looks like, so I am forced to point it out. I like the blue a lot, and think it’s quite office-appropriate.

The light stripes here are so summery and appealing.

dress you couldn’t help but feel feminine in.

I think I’ve shown this Universal Standard dress before, but it is just so good.

A classic black version, and very well-priced.

Red and blue stripes are always a favorite of mine, and the fabric is feather-light.

This is wait-listed in many sizes—it’s part of a collab between Teresa Maccapani Missoni and plus size retailers Eloquii—but it is so pretty I had to include it.

Another striped number, with a nice, roomy cut.

Do you have any suggestions for shirt dresses with structure? I can’t really wear flimsy fabric around my hips and mid-section and have been looking for shirt dresses that can smooth out those areas (maybe with a little spandex?) I owned two about 10 years ago and wore them to shreds!

I love loose, flowy shirt dresses for the tummy-covering factor. Thanks for hearing us, Kim, and consistently adding larger sizes to your picks! 😘

I’ve heard of boyfriend jeans and boyfriend blazers, but I have to admit I’ve never come across a boyfriend dress.
    Love them all, btw!

That first one is just perfect – similar to what I used to find in vintage options. Out of my $ range, but nice to know someone is making a basic flattering dress. With a waist!

Universal standard seems to design for actual women. Love that dress.
